How it works

Type both first names, and optionally the surname you will share and the year. The generator puts Malayali patterns first, built on Kalyanam, Vivaham, Thalikettu, Sadya, then adds the classic name blends. For Meera and Arun, it suggests #MeeraArunKalyanam, #MeeraWedsArun, #MeeraArunVivaham and more. Check a hashtag on Instagram before you print it.

Malayali wedding hashtags use “Kalyanam”, the everyday word, or “Vivaham”, the formal one from the invitation. Kerala weddings are short, so the hashtag does most of its work at the sadya and the reception, where the photos are.

Kerala Christian and Muslim families use the same name patterns; the Hindu ritual words such as Thalikettu belong to the Hindu ceremony, so pick the ones that fit your wedding.

The words

Kalyanam
wedding
Vivaham
wedding (formal)
Thalikettu
the tying of the thali
Sadya
the feast

Tips

  • Kalyanam and Vivaham are long words; use first names or initials, not full names.
  • For a Syrian Christian wedding, the ceremony is minnu kettu, which fits a hashtag as #MinnuKettu plus names.
  • #Sadya plus your names is a favourite for the lunch photos.

Questions couples ask

What is the Malayalam word for wedding in a hashtag?

“Kalyanam” (everyday) or “Vivaham” (formal). #AnnaRahulKalyanam is the common pattern; our company name, Kalyan Co, comes from the same root.

Can I use a ritual word in the hashtag?

Yes, if it is your ritual: Thalikettu for a Hindu wedding, Minnu Kettu for a Kerala Christian one, Nikah for a Muslim wedding. For a fusion wedding, keep to the names.
